Forward Gamlingay! is pleased to be helping one young person in the village on an adventure of a lifetime. Forward Gamlingay! provided a grant for Harvey to buy essential equipment such as mosquito net, travel insurance and camping equipment.
Harvey was selected to join other young people, and people affected by cancer, to help contruct a new school in the remote farming community of Corrente in Brazil. The trip was organised by the Bobby Moore fund which raises money for reasearch in Bowel cancer.
The original school building collapsed in 2008, and since then the region has been in desperate need of a dedicated school building, including two classrooms, a kitchen and bathroom.
The team spent several days plastering, tiling, painting and decorating and generally getting stuck in to help a local construction team to complete the school. There was also plenty of opportunity for the group to interact with the local community, including football skill sessions and matches and a handover ceremony on the final day.
Have a look at this wonderful photo montage of the project and you may get an idea as to how life changing the trip could be for Harvey and all involved.
